#8 Medaille Claims AMCC Championship
BUFFALO, NY - The 8th ranked Medaille men's volleyball team cruised to a pair of victories in claiming the inaugural AMCC Tournament Championship. The Mavs eased past Hilbert (3-0); (25-11, 25-19, 25-17) in the semifinals and then swept D'Youville (3-0); (25-19, 27-25, 25-15) in the title game.
The Mavs made quick work of Hilbert in the opening match with Erin Kelly leading the way with a near flawless performance. He finished with a team best eleven kills while committing no errors, hitting at an impressive (.611) clip. Senior Nick Johnson pounded down eight kills and David Hil chipped in with seven of his own. Libero Brandon Kilijanksi led the Medaille defense with (12) digs while Aaron Woomer directed the Maverick attack with (23) assists.
The title game would pit familiar rivals as D'Youville outlasted Penn State-Behrend (3-2) in the other semifinal. The Mavs would charge past the Spartans for the third time in the 2012 season. Over those three matches the Mavs won (9 of 10) sets played. The key contributors in the title match were familiar faces as Kelly once again led the way with ten kills to go along with three blocks and a pair of service aces. Woomer also had another strong effort as he finished with (28) assists and eight digs as well.
